Whoopi Goldberg revealed the very particular reason why she had covered her fingernails in gold as she arrived at the star-studded annual event in Manhattan

Whoopi Goldberg turned heads on the 2025 Met Gala carpet as she arrived at the New York City event wearing some rather unusual hand accessories.

After four years, Whoopi graced the steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her grand return for this year’s Superfine: Tailoring Black Style themed event.

Whoopi, 69, walked the blue carpet wearing a black and white tuxedo-inspired gown with a collared button-down shirt and tie designed by Thom Browne. The look featured buttons with a patterned white coat from her shoulders and accessorized with a black top hat that featured a net veil, and golden rings covering her fingers.

She told Variety that the reason she used these gold accessories on her hands was because she “couldn’t get a manicure.” She also admitted that her two “fabulous sisters” made them.

The television host certainly received praised for her outfit as one person wrote on X: “You knew Whoopi Goldberg was gonna eat the #MetGala carpet up.”

Another person posted: “Whoopi Goldberg in custom Thom Browne! I love Whoopi and I LOVE Thom so much!! #MetGala.” A third person wrote: “Whoopi Goldberg’s hand attire has somehow, but magically outdone her outfit. The hand pieces are incredible and I definitely can’t wait for the details on why she chose them. #MetGala.”

And a fourth person posted in Spanish: “I loved Whoopi Goldberg!! One of my favorites!! She understood and educated!”

Whoopi gracefully showed off her curves as she has been open about her weight loss journey. The View host admitted to using Mounjaro, not Ozempic, for weight loss.

She appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in May and said: “I made (2022 drama ‘Till’) and a woman thought I was wearing a fat suit. The movie was good, but that fat suit was terrible,'” Goldberg recalls the woman saying. “And I was indignant, this is not a fat suit this is me”

She added that she “was 300 pounds” and had to make a change. She has not revealed how much weight she has lost but she had no shame showing off her curves at the Met Gala 2025.

The last time Whoopi attended Met Gala was in 2021 wearing a purple Valentino couture gown. The View host never publicly stated the reason for her absence.
