Yellowstone Sequel “Y: Marshals” Trailer: Monica is Gone—Kayce Faces Life Alone**
The Yellowstone universe is entering a bold new era, and the latest trailer for “Y: Marshals” reveals a seismic shift: Monica is gone, and Kayce Dutton must raise his son Tate as a single father. The question on every fan’s mind is whether Kayce can truly move forward without Monica, whose presence has grounded him since the very beginning.
The story picks up after the dramatic Yellowstone finale, where Kayce and Beth struck a pivotal deal with Thomas Rainwater—selling most of the Dutton family ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation, with one critical condition: Rainwater could never sell or develop the land. This deal marked the end of an era, and for a moment, it seemed Kayce had finally escaped the endless family turmoil. He kept the East Camp for Monica and Tate, hoping for peace.

But the “Y: Marshals” trailer makes it clear that tranquility didn’t last. The loss of his father John and brother Jamie has left Kayce adrift, struggling with his identity as a rancher, soldier, husband, and father. The trailer shows Kayce at a crossroads, unable to fill the void left by tragedy and loss, setting the stage for a dramatic transformation.
According to the official synopsis, Kayce leaves ranch life behind to join an elite US Marshals unit—a major shift, but one that feels authentic for his character. He brings his cowboy resilience and Navy SEAL skills to the front lines of Montana’s fight for justice, in what looks like a legal, action-driven version of John Dutton’s battle to protect the land.
The trailer highlights Kayce’s new path: riding horseback as a Marshal, chasing fugitives, and guarding trains with his team. His voiceover is raw and reflective: “I’m changing paths, trying to find a new beginning.”

Luke Grimes returns as Kayce, embodying the character’s evolution with depth and authenticity. Monica’s absence looms large, as her relationship with Kayce was always a central emotional thread in Yellowstone. Their love story—marked by cultural differences, family drama, and constant struggle—helped shape Kayce into the man he is. despite controversy among fans, softened and humanized him, pushing him to see beyond his family’s chaos.
Now, “Y: Marshals” picks up after their relationship finally shatters, with rumors suggesting Monica couldn’t bear to watch Kayce spiral any further. Her decision to leave, especially without Tate, remains a mystery fans hope the show will address.
Brecken Merrill returns as Tate, whose journey from childhood trauma to young adulthood promises to be a highlight of the series. The new show will give Tate more agency, exploring his struggles and growth as Kayce tries to protect him. Their father-son dynamic will echo the emotional legacy of John and Kayce, bringing new depth to the story.

Familiar faces return: Gil Birmingham reprises his role as Thomas Rainwater, whose power plays and moral dilemmas add political tension, while Mo Brings Plenty is back as Mo, Rainwater’s loyal right-hand man. Their interactions with Kayce promise to explore the intersection of tribal justice and federal law.
New cast members include Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin, Kayce’s military buddy; Ariel Kebbel as Belle, a fellow Marshal; Ash Santos as Andrea; Tatanka Means as Miles; and Brett Cullen as Harry Gifford, the head of the Marshals in Montana.
CBS has confirmed a mid-season premiere for 2026, likely in spring. With a mix of familiar drama, fresh action, and emotional stakes, “Y: Marshals” is set to be a compelling new chapter in the Yellowstone saga.
