Whoopi Goldberg — who once famously said she didn’t want somebody else living in her house — took a little time to enjoy the view around her instead of participating in a relationship debate during Monday’s episode of The View.
The EGOT winner, 69, appeared to zone out during a conversation at the Hot Topics table about whether or not a person should immediately delete all photographs of their ex following a breakup. Goldberg appeared visibly confused over the dilemma while introducing the topic to her cohosts, shaking her head and holding back laughter before passing it onto everyone else to discuss.
“It’s not about your ex; it’s you’re deleting chapters of your life,” Sara Haines said as Goldberg turned toward into the audience with her arms crossed.

“When you look back at pictures — and people say, ‘Oh, you still have pictures’ — well, some of those people were around for years,” Haines continued “They were at family holidays, they were on a trip to somewhere special. To eliminate them is to eliminate you. And just because you do, it’s like the cloud, they’re still there. I mean, life happened.”

Goldberg could later be spotted resting her head in her hands and gazing wearily at the audience while Ana Navarro explained to their costars that there are now apps that allow you to remove certain people from photographs.
“I do think it’d be weird maybe if you’re married [and] in a serious relationship and your partner has really couple-y photos with an ex,” Alyssa Farah Griffin added. “I wouldn’t care if it’s like, ‘Here’s me in Paris and they happen to be there…’ There is a time where it’s probably, you should retire certain ones, but I agree if it’s like, you went on this cool trip and they were there, you shouldn’t have to erase that from your memory.”
Sunny Hostin then revealed that she’s got a bit of experience with this particular dilemma having recently found a box of photographs of her husband Emmanuel Hostin’s early years.
“You know what I did? I actually had them digitized for him, because I just thought it was really important,” she said. “Those were times in his life. And I gave it to him as a gift and he was like, ‘Who did this?’ He was like, ‘What happened to my wife?’”
When Haines noted that it was “sweet” of her to do, Hostin added, “I feel the same way you do. These are memories, so why rip ‘em up or erase them?”
While Goldberg continued to dreamily gaze offscreen, Hostin recalled feeling “a little some kind of way” after discovering some “couple-y pictures” in her husband’s photo box. “He had his hands around someone, and I was like, ‘Well, who’s that?’ I’d never heard of the person.”

“But you pushed through,” Haines interjected, to which Hostin replied, “I did! Aren’t you proud of me? It is so much growth, right? It is such growth! Normally, I would’ve had a bonfire. And I didn’t! I kept them for him.”
The conversation then hit an awkward lull when the cast wrapped the debate up while Goldberg was still daydreaming away, with all of them turning toward her and laughing as they waited for her to catch on and wrap up the segment.
Goldberg, in response, slowly turned back to face the camera with a sheepish look on her face. She concluded, “We’ll be right back!”
The View airs weekdays on ABC.
