Yellowstone spin-off series focusing on Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly most likely won’t feature one-favorite after latest update.
Actor Cole Hauser emerged as a fan favorite during his tenure on the Taylor Sheridan series Yellowstone. It featured Hauser as Rip Wheeler, the right-hand man of John Dutton and love interest of Beth Dutton. The Neo Western-drama concluded late last year, with the door open for a Beth & Rip spin-off.
After speculation surrounding the proposed project, Hauser has finally provided an update on the spin-off series. At the same time, Hauser semi-confirmed that one major supporting character won’t be a part of the new series. Here is who Hauser will miss most on the new Yellowstone spin-off, and other updates regarding the new series.
Yellowstone star Cole Hauser shares major update on Beth & Rip spin-off
Actor Cole Hauser played the role of Rip Wheeler in all five seasons of Yellowstone, starring opposite Kelly Reilly‘s Beth Dutton. In the series, Rip’s love story and marriage to Beth are a major storyline. As a result, when the series concluded late last year, the couple’s fate was intentionally left open.

In the finale, it is revealed that Beth has purchased a new ranch in Dillon, Montana, which is likely to serve as the setting for a proposed spin-off series focusing on Reilly and Hauser’s characters, which was first revealed to be in development in August 2024.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hauser provided an update on the spin-off series and confirmed that it was still being developed. However, no scripts have been written yet.
I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing stuff soon.
Hauser made the above statement, revealing that the series was still in the early stages of development. However, the actor promised fans that the spin-off would dive deeper into Beth and Rip’s relationship, giving viewers more of what they loved from the original series.

In the same interview, Hauser revealed the one Yellowstone co-star he would miss the most on the new series. The Dazed & Confused actor stated that Forrie J. Smith, who played Lloyd Pierce in the original series, likely won’t be a part of the spin-off.
Not having the cast around certainly [is hard]. Forrie J. Smith [who played Lloyd] has become such a great friend of mine that to think that my right-hand guy wouldn’t be there [is hard].
Hauser made the above statement, suggesting that the ranch hands from the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, including Smith’s fan favorite Lloyd, won’t be making their way to the new ranch in Dillon, Montana.
Meanwhile, Hauser previously debunked rumors that the spin-off series would be titled Dutton Ranch (via Fox News). As a result, the Beth & Rip spin-off currently does not have a title, unlike the other spin-off focusing on Beth’s brother, Kayce Dutton.
The Luke Grimes-centered spin-off is reportedly titled Y: Marshals and expected to premiere next year on CBS. Therefore, it is safe to say that the Duttons will continue to be a part of prime-time television for a while as Taylor Sheridan continues to expand the Yellowstone empire.
