The 1923 series finale left many fans disappointed as it killed off one of their favourite characters.

Yellowstone fans are still reeling after the 1923 prequel season finale which aired on Paramount Plus on April 6. The end to the series saw Alex (played by Julia Schlaepfer) finally reunite with Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) – but not for long.

After giving birth to her premature baby boy, Alex died in hospital after her body had suffered a perilous ordeal in freezing conditions. Fans were heartbroken as they had hoped to see Alex and Spencer on the Montana ranch together.

The ‘disappointing’ ending has led fans to come up with alternative stories of their own, many of which have been shared on Reddit. One in particular, imagined by Zestyclose-Rhubarb55, has been hailed as a work of genius.

The fan suggested after jumping off the train, Spencer comes across Teonna Rainwater’s (Aminah Nieves) partner Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), which eventually leads to a meeting with Teonna and her father.

They also imagined Alex working on the train to Billings, where she meets prostitute Lindy (Madison Elise Rogers), who is trying to recruit more girls. Alex would then meet Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton), who would agree to help her find Spencer, but he would of course have an ulterior motive.

Many fans of spoken of how it would have been interesting to see Alex run into Whitfield, with Spencer eventually saving her.

As for the final episode, Zestyclose-Rhubarb55 said it should have ended with Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) and Spencer running into Mabel (Magdalene Keh-Vick) who discloses Whitfield was holding Alex captive.

Meanwhile, Teonna and Pete headed for California to start a family and work on a local ranch.

Elsewhere, Cara and Mabel go to confront Whitfield and turn some of the investors against Whitfield’s plan. Spencer eventually finds Alex and there is a grapple between Whitfield, Spencer and the love of his life.

While Alex is stabbed, she survives and bonds in hospital with an already-injured Jacob (Harrison Ford) while Spencer and Cara kill Whitfield and take him to the infamous Train Station.

The fan added: “Flashforward three years. Alex and Elizabeth are laughing and giving each other tips over their clothing. Cara laughs at their foolishness and tells them their husbands would rather have a hearty meal when they get home then a gussied up wife.

“Jacob disagrees as he struggles to keep up with their two toddlers. Spencer and Jack come riding up with ranch hands and dozens of cattle their have rounded up. The men dismount and run up to their beautiful wives who are happy and waiting for them.

“Elsa narration that they would see many hardships and struggles over the coming years but how all the hardships were worth what they had in that current moment.”

Other followers flocked to the comments to praise the alternative ending, with Camperfan246 sharing: “I’m going to pretend this is how it ended.”

EllieJamesYA said: “Would have been so much better!” While bud440 added: “Yep, much better than TS. I’m mad too!”
