Now that Kayce Dutton’s Yellowstone spinoff is taking form, it needs to include one critical aspect of the original series to keep the franchise strong.

Taylor Sheridan concluded his original show with Yellowstone season 5 in November 2024. However, the stories from the flagship series will continue in two new spinoff shows, with Luke Grimes reprising Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals for CBS.

Y: Marshals was announced earlier this year, marking a first for the franchise as Yellowstone’s first show to air on a major network. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will also reprise their characters in Beth and Rip’s Yellowstone spinoff, announced ahead of Yellowstone season 5’s finale. With different shows in the works, Beth and Kayce need to stay in touch.

After Yellowstone’s finale, the franchise should avoid fracturing its remaining main characters. Therefore, Kayce Dutton’s spin-off needs to include Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. In Yellowstone season 5, episode 14, Beth and Rip move to Dillon, Montana. Their ranch is within a couple of hours of Kayce’s, meaning that Beth and Kayce would realistically cross over from time to time.

While Reilly and Hauser have their own spinoff coming up, including Beth and Rip in Kayce’s series would keep the original show’s story alive, rather than permanently disconnecting Beth and Kayce after the latter sold the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Since most didn’t want to see Yellowstone end, keeping the siblings connected is a great way to honor the popular original series.

There’s No Word On Y: Marshal’s Complete Cast List

With their own spinoff premiering on Paramount+ in November 2025, Beth and Rip won’t be mainstays in the cast of Y: Marshals. That said, some original Yellowstone characters could permanently land on the CBS show, an exciting development for any cast members already involved in the series. Still, some are more likely to appear in Kayce’s spinoff than others.

Kayce’s spinoff should include his wife and son, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and Tate (Brecken Merrill), to adequately fill out Dutton’s story. It could also feature key Yellowstone Ranch cowboys, such as Jake or Ethan, who stayed nearby in Montana. Perhaps best of all, Kayce’s spinoff could feature Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), continuing the story of Yellowstone‘s Broken Rock Tribe.
