AI is at it again and this time, it has come for The View veteran, Whoopi Goldberg. For a while now, the Internet has been flooded with deepfakes, using celebrities’ faces and voices to either sell their products or create unethical explicit content.

From Taylor Swift to Scarlett Johansson, tons of celebrities have fallen victim to this god-awful trend that has been rising at a rapid pace. Now, Whoopi Goldberg has found herself in the mess as well.

Apparently, a company selling a weight loss drug has been using Whoopi Goldberg’s face to market its product.

During a recent episode of The View, the longtime host took some time out of the segments to shut down the fake advertisement that has been going around on social media and revealed what she actually used to reduce her weight.

Lately, it has become almost impossible for people to know what they’re looking at on their screens is fact or fiction. This is why, social media platforms need to make it their responsibility to fact-check the posts made, especially if they can potentially harm an influenced person.

Luckily, Whoopi Goldberg was not going to sit back and relax when a company on Instagram began sharing “bad weight loss drugs” with her name attached to the product.

While she didn’t specify which company or product was the one behind the deed, she stated on The View,

I’m giving everybody a heads-up. There is a phony weight loss ad floating around online, on Instagram, that has me, AI mouthed, saying all kinds of stuff. I don’t sell anything unless I say, ‘Hey it’s me, Whoopi.’ That’s how you know it’s me.

She added,

Do not indulge in this, do not look at this. Just get rid of it, because I don’t know what it is. I had nothing to do with it, and I don’t want y’all thinking that this is coming from me.”

As it turns out, the mystery company had taken footage of Goldberg from CBS News Sunday Mornings and presented it in a way that seemed as if she was endorsing their product.

Whoopi Goldberg talks about the product she actually used to lose weight

Did Whoopi Goldberg Use Weight Loss Drug When She Was Nearly 300 Lbs?

Back in 2024, Goldberg appeared on Oprah Winfrey‘s special, Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution, where she openly talked about her weight loss journey.

Later on The View, she revealed that she had weighed 300 pounds while she was filming the 2021 movie, Till. She added, “I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff.” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

While her weight had “gone up and down” through the years, she never paid any attention to it until she finally saw herself in Till. Goldberg said, “I had always just felt like me. And then I saw me and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s a lot of me.’

Then, Goldberg revealed that the drug, Mounjaro, helped her shed the extra pounds. Mounjaro is a brand-name GLP-1 drug that helps with diabetes and obesity.

Coming back to her recent warningGoldberg stated that she has always been transparent about what she has used as an aid to her weight loss journey and advised viewers to not fall for AI-generated posts.

I told you what I did. I was up front. I don’t have any reason to go sell some other stuff. I told you how I got to – my Mounjaro, I used Mounjaro, which is what I did.

But this stuff, I don’t know who these people are. That’s the problem with AI. You don’t know who made it, but I’m telling you, it’s a lot of BS. Do not fall for it.

Well, there you go. While Goldberg has used a drug to help lose weight, the mystery company using her name and face has nothing to do with any of it.

The View is available to watch on Hulu.
