Ginuwine Opens Up: Confirms Awful Rumors and Drops Bombshells About His Past
R&B singer Ginuwine recently addressed the swirling rumors and painful truths about his relationships, career struggles, and personal battles, confirming much of what fans have long suspected.
Ginuwine revealed that he and the late singer Aaliyah were not on speaking terms when she tragically passed away.
Their falling out, he explained, was not due to any major argument but rather a gradual drifting apart, mainly because of loyalty issues surrounding Aaliyah’s uncle and manager, Barry Hankerson.
Ginuwine left Hankerson’s label, Blackground Records, which led to misunderstandings and distance between him and Aaliyah. He regrets never having the chance to clear the air with her before her untimely death, a pain that still lingers.
He also opened up about the breakdown in his relationship with super-producer Timbaland. The two were once close collaborators, making hits like “Pony.”
But after Ginuwine left their shared management, Timbaland grew distant, leaving Ginuwine feeling abandoned and hurt. Ginuwine shared that he repeatedly tried to reconnect, but Timbaland offered only excuses or silence. The final blow came when Timbaland failed to support Ginuwine’s album and didn’t appear in a music video Ginuwine had invested heavily in.
Although Timbaland later said he never meant to hurt Ginuwine, the damage to their friendship was done, with Ginuwine still feeling he deserved a direct conversation and apology.
Ginuwine’s struggles weren’t limited to professional relationships. He spoke candidly about his personal battles, especially after the devastating losses of both his parents within a year. His father’s suicide in 1999 and his mother’s death from cancer in 2000 sent Ginuwine into a spiral of grief, leading him to abuse alcohol and drugs as a way to numb the pain.
He admitted that for years, he didn’t take therapy seriously and felt completely alone, with substance abuse further affecting his music and public appearances.
A turning point came when a friend intervened, encouraging him to seek help. While therapy didn’t immediately work for him, reconnecting with his faith and thinking about his children’s future motivated him to get sober.
Ginuwine recently celebrated two months of sobriety, sharing his journey on social media and encouraging others struggling with addiction to keep fighting and believe in themselves.
The singer also addressed a past controversy when he faced backlash for refusing to kiss a transgender woman on live TV. Ginuwine maintained that everyone has the right to personal boundaries and that no one should be forced into romantic situations.
Reflecting on his career, Ginuwine remembers the early days with Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Aaliyah as a family-like creative environment that eventually fractured due to business pressures and personal differences.
Despite past conflicts, Ginuwine says he is now on better terms with Timbaland and is open to working together again.
Currently, Ginuwine is a free agent, working on new music and a reality show with his wife. Through all the ups and downs, he remains grateful for his fans’ support and determined to keep moving forward, having learned hard lessons about loyalty, forgiveness, and self-worth.
