While many condemned Cruise for his expletive-laden rant, sparking widespread debate about his behavior, Whoopi Goldberg publicly defended the actor, asserting that his actions were entirely justified.

Tom Cruise’s leaked outburst on the Mission: Impossible 7 crew members sparked significant backlash for the action star, as people criticized the action star’s expletive-filled rant towards his subordinates.

The leaked audio tape included Cruise expressing his frustration over crew members disregarding COVID-19 safety protocols, stating, “I’m on the phone with every f**king studio at night, insurance companies, producers, and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies.”

“We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf***ers,” he continued in his angry tirade on the crew members and warned that anyone violating the protocols again would be fired.

The tirade led people to call the Oscar-nominated actor an “ego-maniac” and a “narcissist,” as many called out the actor for abusing his power. As per Business Insider, one X (Twitter) used said,

What it reveals is what we’ve known for a Long time, he’s: An ego-maniac. Narcissist. Innate sense of Superiority. Controlling.. Fierce temper. Abuse of power. He sounds deranged on it.

However, amid the backlash, Cruise received support from some, notably from Whoopi Goldberg, who argued that the actor’s anger was understandable given the seriousness of the pandemic and the need to ensure safety on set.

Whoopi Goldberg also argued the same during a discussion on The View, as she stated, “You know, some people don’t understand why he would get so angry… I get it.” She continued,

If you get 50 emails from people who will tell you that when you see something on a set that is as sort of dangerous as people not taking this seriously, you do go off and you do get crazy.

Goldberg also suggested that Cruise’s concern likely stemmed from the potential risk to production of the seventh installment of the hit action franchise, if he himself contracted the virus.

She said,

You can get a new camera operator — no disrespect to camera operators. You can get a new sound man. But if [Cruise] is looking over and he can see you not doing what you’re supposed to be doing, it’s kind of like a little bit of a middle finger, in my opinion.

Along with Goldberg, most of her co-hosts also echoed her sentiments, including Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin. Other Hollywood celebrities like Josh Gad, Aisha Tyler, and Hilarie Burton also shared their support for Cruise amid the backlash.
