# Victoria Rowell: A Heartbreaking Confession and Inspiring Journey
Victoria Rowell, born in 1959 in Portland, Maine, has lived a life of resilience and triumph that few could have predicted. From a challenging start in foster care to becoming a beloved actress on *The Young and the Restless*, her story is one of overcoming odds with unyielding determination.
Behind the glamour of red carpets and Emmy nominations, Rowell’s journey is marked by personal struggles, professional battles, and a heartbreaking confession that shocked fans.
Rowell’s early life was far from a fairy tale. Her mother, Dorothy, battled schizophrenia, leaving Victoria and her siblings in foster care just 16 days after her birth. Placed with Agatha and Robert Armstead, she found stability and discovered her passion for ballet at age eight.
A prodigy, she earned a full scholarship to the American Ballet Theater and trained at Juilliard, later teaching ballet herself. This lifeline of dance propelled her toward a broader stage, transitioning from ballet slippers to television scripts in the 1980s.
Her acting career took off with a debut in 1987’s *Leonard Part 6* alongside Bill Cosby, followed by a recurring role on *The Cosby Show*. However, it was her iconic portrayal of Drusilla Barber on *The Young and the Restless* starting in 1990 that made her a household name. As a street urchin turned ballet dancer, Drusilla became a fan favorite, earning Rowell three Daytime Emmy nominations and 11 NAACP Image Awards.
Yet, behind the scenes, drama brewed. In 2007, Rowell left the show, publicly criticizing its lack of diversity in cast and crew, a stance that would define much of her later career advocacy.
The heartbreaking confession came through her vocal battles with systemic issues in Hollywood. In 2015, Rowell filed a lawsuit against CBS and Sony Pictures Television for racial discrimination and retaliation, alleging they blocked her return to *The Young and the Restless* or *The Bold and the Beautiful* due to her diversity critiques.
She claimed racially motivated attacks on set involving co-stars, though the suit was dismissed in 2017 after a settlement. Her raw honesty about enduring retaliation and advocating for African-American representation in front of and behind the camera stunned fans who admired her on-screen charisma.
Beyond the drama, Rowell’s legacy shines through her philanthropy. In 1990, she founded the Rowell Foster Children Positive Plan, supporting foster kids with emotional and financial aid, especially aspiring actors and dancers—a reflection of her own path.
Her 2008 memoir, *The Women Who Raised Me*, detailed her journey, while her ongoing projects, like *The Rich and the Ruthless*, showcase her as a writer, director, and producer. With a net worth of around $2 million in 2025 and upcoming roles in films like *Love Offside* and *The Secret Us*, Rowell continues to inspire, proving that heartbreak can fuel a powerful fight for change.
