Born on September 20, 1985, in Kingston, Jamaica, Tessanne grew up in a musical family. Her father, Richard Chin, played drums in a band called the Carnations, while her mother, Christine Chin, sang and played the trumpet.

Music was embedded in her DNA, and she was surrounded by creativity from an early age. Tessanne is also the younger sister of Tammy Chin, a prominent figure in Jamaican music. Growing up with four siblings, music and performance were integral parts of their lives.

As Seventh Day Adventists, the Chin family observed the Sabbath strictly, which meant no television or performances from Friday evening to Saturday sundown. During this time, Tessanne and her siblings relied on their imagination and the radio for entertainment. At just six years old, she joined Kathy Levy’s Little People and Teen Players Club, a top performing arts school in Jamaica, where her mother and vocal coach, Lesie Wright, helped hone her singing skills.

When Tessanne was 12, her family moved to England, where she faced a culture shock in a predominantly white area. Filling out school forms that asked for her ethnicity, she struggled with her identity, checking “other.” This experience, rather than breaking her, strengthened her connection to her Jamaican roots and inspired her to write songs.

After returning to Jamaica, Tessanne joined the reggae rock band Mile High and toured as a backup singer for reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. Her career took off with the release of her debut single, “Hideaway,” in 2006, which garnered significant airplay and sales. By 2010, she released her independent debut album, *Between Words*, produced by notable figures in the industry.

Despite her rising success, Tessanne faced significant challenges in her personal life. After marrying broadcaster Michael Anthony Cuff Jr. in 2011, the pressures of the music industry began to take a toll on their relationship. The couple divorced in 2015, and Tessanne stepped back from the spotlight, grappling with the emotional fallout.

However, in 2019, she found love again with Brandon Krooks, and the couple married quietly. They welcomed their first child, daughter Zia Christine Krooks, in February 2020, followed by another daughter, Isa Denise Krooks, in February 2023. Motherhood transformed Tessanne’s perspective, reigniting her passion for music.

As of October 2024, Tessanne announced she was working on her third studio album with Natural High Music. She also released a Christmas single titled “Christmas is Better With You” and staged her second annual Christmas production, showcasing her commitment to her craft and community.
