Chrissy Teigen Reveals Son Miles’ Type 1 Diabetes Diagnosis in Heartfelt Post

At 38, Chrissy Teigen, model, author, and wife of singer John Legend, has shared heartbreaking yet hopeful news about her six-year-old son, Miles.

The revelation came just days after Chrissy posted a photo of Miles wearing a glucose monitor on his arm, prompting followers to reach out with supportive messages.

Chrissy expressed gratitude for the kindness she received, stating, “So many of you noticed his type 1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement. I was and am so blown away by the kindness of this community.”

She acknowledged that while the diagnosis is difficult, she feels blessed to have access to excellent healthcare and specialists.

Chrissy recounted how the family discovered Miles’s condition. A few weeks earlier, Miles had been hospitalized with a severe intestinal infection, which was also affecting other children from his summer camp.

However, doctors noticed irregularities in his blood tests, leading to further investigation. After additional testing, they learned Miles was in the “honeymoon period” of type 1 diabetes, a phase where the body still produces some insulin. “Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin,” Chrissy wrote, describing the family’s adjustment to a “different new world.”

She thanked her followers for their support, saying it helps Miles know he is not alone. Chrissy also shared that she and John Legend have been reading the book “Year One with Type 1” to help Miles understand his diagnosis.

The emotional journey has brought tears and challenges, but Chrissy emphasized the importance of community and shared experiences.

Type 1 diabetes is a condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, requiring lifelong management with insulin shots, diet, and monitoring. There is no cure, but with proper care, individuals can live full lives.

Many of Chrissy’s followers, including parents of children with diabetes and adults living with the condition, shared their stories and encouragement.

One follower commented, “You were chosen to be Miles’s mom for a reason, and God chose this journey for him because he knows he’s strong.” Others praised Miles for wearing his continuous glucose monitor proudly and offered advice from their own experiences.

Chrissy also referenced pop star Nick Jonas, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a teen and has become a role model for many. She shared that Nick was kind to Miles, highlighting the importance of positive examples for children facing similar diagnoses.

In addition to sharing Miles’s story, Chrissy opened up about her ongoing mental health struggles. She described how everyday challenges, like crossing a log during an obstacle course, have become metaphors for her battle with anxiety and fear—emotions that intensified after the traumatic loss of her son Jack in 2020.

Chrissy candidly discussed her efforts to cope, her fears of failure and public disappointment, and her commitment to personal growth and self-compassion.

Despite these challenges, Chrissy remains dedicated to her family and to supporting others facing similar battles. Her message serves as a reminder of the strength found in vulnerability and the importance of community when navigating life’s hardships.
