Giveon Desmond Evans was born on February 21, 1995, in Long Beach, California.
Raised by a single mother who worked night shifts as a nurse, Giveon’s childhood was filled with music, especially the soulful heartbreak songs his mom played while cleaning the house. She noticed his talent early, making him sing “Happy Birthday” at every family party, unknowingly training him for the stage.
As he grew older, his voice deepened dramatically, pushing him into baritone territory and making him self-conscious. Everything changed when his mom enrolled him in a music program at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

There, Giveon discovered other baritone singers like Frank Sinatra and realized his voice wasn’t weird—it was unique. Inspired, he began to blend Sinatra’s style with the R&B storytelling of Frank Ocean and the smoothness of Miguel.
Giveon’s first attempt at releasing music, an EP in 2013, was a disappointment to him; he quickly scrapped it, believing he needed more life experience before truly expressing heartbreak in his songs. During this period, he worked odd jobs—including as a mascot in a shrimp costume at Bubba Gump Shrimp.
Eventually, he quit, started a dog-walking business, and kept chasing his music dreams. He uploaded “Garden Kisses” and “Fields” to YouTube, which went viral and caught the attention of producer Sevn Thomas. Together, they created “Like I Want You,” leading to Giveon’s signing with Epic Records.

His breakthrough came in 2020 when Drake featured him on “Chicago Freestyle.” Though many confused him with another artist, Giveon quickly clarified his identity online. His EPs “Take Time” and “When It’s All Said and Done,” released in 2020, earned critical acclaim and set the stage for his rise.
But Giveon’s ascent was rocked by scandal in December 2021. His girlfriend, singer Justine Skye, gained access to his phone for three days and watched in real time as he texted other women, coordinated meetups, and lied with the help of his friends. Instead of confronting him immediately, Justine observed and gathered evidence, eventually exposing Giveon with screenshots during a viral Instagram Live. The internet erupted, and Giveon retreated from the spotlight.

During his hiatus, Giveon channeled his pain and regret into his music. He spent 1,000 days working on his album “Beloved,” released in 2024, featuring 98% live instrumentation and exploring themes of heartbreak, vulnerability, and self-reflection. Songs like “Keeper” and “Trying to Be” candidly address his own struggles with honesty and fidelity.
As of 2025, Giveon remains single and much more guarded in relationships, wary of saying “I love you” and avoiding party scenes. He still lives in Long Beach, where he’s celebrated with his own day, and his net worth sits between $2 million and $4 million.
Despite the scandal, Giveon’s music continues to resonate—his hits have hundreds of millions of streams, and he’s already writing his next project, determined not to let heartbreak define him, but to transform it into art. From humble beginnings to viral fame, public humiliation, and artistic redemption, Giveon’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of vulnerability in music.
