Marvel’s Blade has been taking so long to get off the ground since its official announcement in 2019 and the delay is seriously frustrating the fans. Still, we are glad we’re getting updates about it, no matter how disappointing they may sound.

From changes in directors to revising scripts and getting pulled out from Disney’s 2025 calendar schedule as it faces indefinite delay, at least we know that Marvel is working hard to figure out the right story to tell.

MCU’s Blade Has More Progress Than Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act 3

Marvel’s Blade will reportedly star Mahershala Ali as the lead. So far, Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange were the two directors previously attached to the project and subsequently left.

Marvel is evidently not rushing to get started on the film until they have gotten the character right, which is still a good sign that they are focused on achieving quality output.

Every once in a while, fans get updates on the upcoming MCU project, unlike Whoopi Goldberg’s Sister Act 3. It is another installment that has been confirmed years ago, but has not made any significant progress.

Understandably, it may take a while to revive an old classic franchise. After all, the original films, Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, were released in 1992 and 1993, respectively.

Sister Act 3 was confirmed in 2018 after Deadline revealed a script was being developed. In 2020, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production boss Sean Bailey confirmed that it will debut on Disney+.

In his conversation with ET Online, director Tyler Perry expressed frustration over the massive delay of the sequel. “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long, like I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this,” he said, later revealing that he and Goldberg were eager to get started.

The latest update on the project comes from Goldberg after appearing in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She told the host that they are making some adjustments because her costar Maggie Smith passed away in September. Still, she reassured fans: “We will get it done. We’ll get it done. Yeah, it’s a shift.”

Hopefully, there will be progress on Sister Act 3 now that she has mentioned it on television.

Goldberg has previously expressed her eagerness to get a third film. In her interview with ET Online in 2022, she said she had been pushing for it for six years. Some people even told her no one was interested in picking it up, but she was determined to make it happen.

In fact, she has her own fan cast for the movie and wanted to get Keke Palmer, Lizzo, and Nicki Minaj to join in on the fun. Goldberg is also looking into recruiting the original franchise stars to return for the sequel.

Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit are available to watch on Disney+.
