Iman Shumpert is keeping it real about life after his split from Teyana Taylor in a new podcast interview.
His comments come on the heels of the singer DRAGGING him for allegedly mishandling their divorce behind closed doors as she accused him of feeding info about their settlement to the press.
But the former NBA baller is now weighing in with his thoughts and expressed how Taylor’s actions in their split had left him feeling hurt.
Iman Shumpert Spoke On Their Messy Divorce
Shumpert recently appeared on the ‘Tap In With TT’ podcast, and after staying tight-lipped about his split from Taylor for the past year, he unloaded everything he’d been holding back.
The 34-year-old reflected on his relationship with Teyana Taylor, saying that despite the great years they shared, he doesn’t want recent negative discussions about their divorce to overshadow those positive memories.
“We had great years, you know what I’m saying? Like, great years together. So, it’s like, I can’t let this now cause it to be negative stuff […] Something happened, they discussing it, but that happened a year ago. Y’all still discussing it, discuss it.”
Roomies, if you recall, Taylor accused Shumpert of leaking information to the media about the finalization of their divorce, including who was going to get what in their settlement. She also clapped back after folks started labeling her a “gold-digger” once word got out about what she was reportedly walking away with from their marriage.
Taylor Questioned Shumpert’s Parenting In Divorce Docs
And if that wasn’t messy enough, during their divorce drama, Taylor also called him out for allegedly being a careless parent, as reported by TMZ. She claimed she was very concerned about their kids’ – Junie and Rue Rose – safety and basic care under his watch.
When asked if he gets heated about the public diving into his and Teyana’s split, especially with their relationship having been so public, Shumpert shut it down with a quick, “Not really!”
Shumpert admitted that while some of Taylor’s court filings were “hurtful,” he’s cool with people talking about it since they hyped up the good times, too, so he’s not about to tell folks to skip the bad. But he did recall a time when he’d seen someone from Chicago speaking on his situation, which did trigger him a little.
“I don’t think I got mad once until somebody from Chicago did it,” the ex-athlete, who’s from Chi-town, expressed, stating that where he’s from, people don’t get down like that. “Like, Chicago ain’t allowed to do that […] Shut y’all a** up.”
Taylor Addressed Her Issues With Her Ex On IG Live
Earlier this year, Taylor hopped on IG Live to address the nonstop chatter about her divorce from Shumpert as well as claims that she was trying to throw her baby daddy behind bars for contempt. Apparently, some of their divorce settlement tea leaked online, and Taylor was quick to point the finger at Shumpert.
“I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail,” the ‘Google Me’ singer said, adding she just wanted him to leave her alone so they could both live their lives in peace. She proceeded to call Shumpert out for what she says is a shady pattern.
Every time she’s out here winning, like doing her big one at the Oscars after-party with Aaron Pierre, the next day, Taylor says she’s caught up in headlines about her divorce, which she believed was very much orchestrated.
“That’s the part y’all don’t see. Every time I have something going on, there’s another story about this sealed divorce,” she snapped.
She also addressed those who were calling her money-hungry because of the settlement she and Shumpert reportedly agreed to.
Taylor clarified that she kept ownership of multiple cars, including a Maybach she purchased herself after her ex allegedly crashed her Rolls Royce and never replaced it.
“I don’t want no parts of this. Iman is my family. He is the father of my children, and that’s never going to change,” she said. “I just want to move on with my life in peace. People love the idea of what we looked like together. It looked like a fairy tale, but I lived it,” she said. “I carried a lot of weight in my marriage, and I was tired.”
