Everyone Was Worried When Cam Newton Asked This… Then Woody McClain Left the Room in Tears
During a candid interview, Cam Newton posed a deeply personal question to actor Woody McClain that led to an unexpectedly emotional moment. Cam asked Woody about the nature of acting:
“When you tap into an emotion, do you acknowledge that emotion as real or fake?” Woody answered with sincerity, explaining that for him, every emotion he portrays is real. “I’m always looking to tell the truth… I’m not really acting anymore when I’m on screen. I’m telling the truth,” he said.
Woody then opened up about the challenges he faces in the industry, particularly the issue of being typecast. He shared an experience from his very first acting class in Los Angeles, where fellow students were asked to describe what kind of character they saw him as—without knowing him personally.
The responses were overwhelmingly negative: “bad boy,” “thug,” “killer.” Only after he introduced himself did their perceptions shift, calling him “nice” and “sweet.” This exercise made Woody realize how quickly people judge, even before you speak.
Reflecting on this, Woody admitted that earlier in his career, he would take any role just for the sake of acting. But now, he’s more strategic, wanting to avoid being pigeonholed as a negative character. “I don’t want everybody to keep perceiving me as this bad person,” he said, his voice trembling with emotion.
At this point, Woody became visibly overwhelmed, needing a moment to compose himself. Cam and the crew gave him space and support, encouraging him to lean into the moment rather than rush through it.
Woody eventually explained through tears that he works hard not to be seen as the “younger Woody” who might have made mistakes or fit negative stereotypes. After a pivotal conversation with God, he committed to being a better person and a positive role model—someone people could look up to.
Cam gently probed further, asking what had impacted Woody the most recently. Woody revealed that he had just found out he was expecting twin daughters. This news profoundly affected him, as he worried about how his roles might shape his daughters’ perception of him. “I don’t want my baby girls to grow up and think their dad is a bad person,” he confessed.
The responsibility of fatherhood, especially with two girls on the way, made him more conscious about the image he projects through his work. “It’s scary because I know nothing about being a father… Everything is blurry right now. I’m just trying to figure it out,” Woody admitted.
Cam then asked if Woody feared his daughters would one day discover why he went to jail. Woody replied with honesty and resolve: “No, I would tell them. Absolutely.”
This raw and vulnerable moment revealed Woody McClain’s determination to break free from negative stereotypes, be a good father, and use his platform to inspire others. The interview left a lasting impression, reminding everyone of the power of truth, vulnerability, and personal growth.
