Vivica A. Fox, Now 60, Reflects on Her Marriage to Christopher Harvest After 23 Years
Vivica A. Fox is a force in Hollywood. The accomplished actress, producer, and host has built a remarkable career spanning four decades. She first appeared on “Days of Our Lives,” but it was her breakout role in the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day” that made her a star.
That same year, she captivated audiences in “Set It Off,” and continued to shine in comedies like “Soul Food” and “Two Can Play That Game,” as well as TV dramas such as “1-800-Missing” and reality series like “Vivica’s Black Magic.” Fox also produced over 20 Lifetime movies and had memorable supporting roles, including Cookie’s sister Candace on “Empire” and Loretta Black on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
As Fox told Hype Magazine in 2018, her success is the result of “good old-fashioned hard work.” Yet behind the scenes, she’s faced her share of challenges and heartbreaks—none more so than her first marriage.
In 1998, Vivica married singer Christopher “Sixx-Nine” Harvest. At the time, Harvest was in a music group hoping for a big break, while Fox’s film career was taking off. Looking back, Fox admitted to Vlad TV in 2021 that she rushed into marriage, influenced by the pressure of seeing friends enjoy their “Cinderella day.” She confessed, “I didn’t take the time to get to know him.
I felt peer pressure.” In her 2020 memoir, “Every Day I’m Hustling,” Fox elaborated that she thought she was doing what was expected of a successful woman.
But when Harvest’s record deal fell through, a financial gap emerged between them. Fox claimed he wasn’t working as hard to find new opportunities, and she grew tired of being the sole breadwinner. “My mother didn’t raise me to take care of a man,” she told Vlad TV. Ultimately, the marriage ended because she realized she didn’t want that dynamic.
Fox’s romantic life continued to make headlines. In 2011, she became engaged to Atlanta club promoter Omar “Slim” White, who was 20 years her junior.
The couple seemed happy and even planned to start a family, but Fox called off the wedding months before it was set to take place. White later claimed he ended things, explaining, “Sometimes you outgrow people.”
Fox, in a tearful interview, said, “He was a great guy, he just wasn’t for me.” After years focused on her career, she wanted to be closer to family and have a child.
Fox’s career is filled with determination. She fought for her “Independence Day” role, auditioning six times before landing the part. That led to “Set It Off,” where Will Smith, then dating Jada Pinkett Smith, helped coach her audition.
Fox’s brief romance with rapper 50 Cent in 2003 was highly publicized. She later admitted, “He was the love of my life,” but said their relationship suffered from too much public attention. She’s since learned the value of privacy and now seeks a partner who makes her laugh and shares her values, rather than just physical attraction.
At 60, Vivica A. Fox stands as a testament to resilience, growth, and the wisdom that comes from embracing both triumphs and mistakes.
