Luke Grimes returns as Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals, a gritty new CBS spinoff promising more action and less romance than Beth & Rip.
Yellowstone might be over, but Taylor Sheridan’s universe is nowhere near done expanding, and the latest reveal proves it’s aiming higher than just more Beth & Rip drama. Luke Grimes is officially saddling up again as Kayce Dutton in Y:
Marshals, a brand-new procedural spinoff coming to CBS in 2026. Confirmed earlier this year and now ordered to series, the show will follow Kayce deep into federal law enforcement territory, adding a gritty, action-packed twist to the Dutton legacy.
If you thought Yellowstone was all about family feuds and ranch politics, this next chapter is promising something bigger and maybe even better.
How Yellowstone’s Beth and Rip’s Story Feels Complete as Kayce Takes a Darker Turn in Y: Marshals?

Beth and Rip may’ve ridden off into happily-ever-after, but let’s be real, there’s no drama left in that love story. Meanwhile, Kayce Dutton got plenty of chaos ahead. That’s the vibe Yellowstone star Luke Grimes teased as he opened up about Taylor Sheridan’s new spinoff, Y: Marshals.
Luke Grimes, who played the ever-conflicted Kayce Dutton, just dropped a major tease about Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming spin-off Y: Marshals. And from the sound of it, Kayce’s back this time with a whole new layer of chaos. Grimes alluded (via PEOPLE),
We definitely wanted to make sure to give it a real story and make it interesting and make it believable…If it was just like, ‘well, he’s happy’ — we’re just going to watch him be happy?
That’s not very cool. But I’ll say this, the idea that was pitched to me is very, very good and very interesting, and it really roped me in, and I think it will rope the audience in as well.
Instead, Sheridan pitched something “very, very good and very interesting,” and Grimes is all in. Set in a new law enforcement world, Y: Marshals seems ready to drop Kayce into a crime ring-heavy plotline, far away from family ranch drama.
It’s a smart move. His Yellowstone arc ended with closure, but happiness doesn’t make compelling TV. Corruption, danger, and familiar faces popping up? Now that does.
Grimes admitted wrapping Yellowstone was emotional, even calling it “like losing a family.” But with Y: Marshals on the horizon and Ari Aster’s Eddington also in his pocket, he’s stepping into this next chapter fully reloaded.
Our Take on How Y: Marshals Might Finally Give Yellowstone Fans the Crime-Heavy Drama They’ve Been Missing

Y: Marshals is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. For a long, long time. A true return to cowboy grit, led by Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, arguably the only Dutton we all liked without debate.
He’s back on the ranch, post-Yellowstone, where he sold it for $1.25 with one catch: no one gets to touch its natural beauty. The “Y” in the title ties it all to the Yellowstone universe, but this time it leans hard into crime, law, and justice.
With SEAL Team showrunner Spencer Hudnut at the helm, we’re guaranteed some serious action. And with Kayce’s Navy SEAL background, I know we’re not just getting cattle rustlers and feed problems, we’re getting range justice, shootouts, and horse chases.
What excites me most is that this series lets Kayce finally take center stage. He’s got the stoic strength, the family loyalty, and that quiet-but-deadly presence fans respect.
Y: Marshals promises to blend modern law enforcement with old-school cowboy vibes. Less politics, more grit. It’s the Yellowstone follow-up that actually makes sense.
Y: Marshals doesn’t have a release date yet. Watch Yellowstone on Peacock.
