I remember my first pair of Birkenstocks — the classic double strap Birko-Flor in neon orange.

They were hanging up in the grocery store in France (yes, you can buy your bread and Birks at the same time over there) and as soon as I slipped them on, I never wanted to take them off… so I didn’t.

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise when I learned that the infamous Whoopi Goldberg also refuses to take off her Birkenstocks.

In a piece published in The Strategist, Goldberg even jokes that she wears her Birks so much that her feet look like them when she’s not wearing them.

“Wow. Wow. I do live in mine,” Goldberg said. “They’re not the most attractive, but boy do they make your feet feel good.”

The shoe comes in both men’s and women’s sizes, with a versatile enough design that it looks great on all wearers. It’s perfect for warmer weather, running errands, or standing all day (looking at you, summer sport games).

“Let me tell you, they’re great for your back,” Goldberg tells The Strategist. “I have really flat feet, so if you want to know about comfort, I’m all about comfort.”

The footbed company behind the popular brand dates back to the 1700s, so they’ve had time to perfect their comfort-forward design. The footbed is unique because the more you wear the shoes, the more it forms to your unique foot and arch. It basically customizes itself.

The innovative footbed also features an extra deep heel cup that provides ultimate cushioning, which is great if you struggle with heel pain. The arch support also runs along the entire length of the shoe, providing ultimate stability.

Birkenstocks also feature extra toe space, allowing your toes to move more naturally. And the raised toe bar isn’t just there for comfort; it also exercises the legs to promote circulation.
