Greg Gutfeld Reflects on His Career and Talks About His New Show, “What Did I Miss?”
Greg Gutfeld, the outspoken host of *Gutfeld!* and *The Five*, recently opened up about his unconventional career path and the many times he was fired before landing his role at Fox News.
In a candid and humorous interview, Gutfeld shared stories from his past, including a wild night in Hell’s Kitchen and his journey to becoming one of television’s most recognizable faces.
Gutfeld began by recounting a hilarious memory involving a mutual friend named Tracy, who ran an illegal speakeasy in Hell’s Kitchen. The bar, described as looking like a place for special ops forces, was tiny and unconventional, with no actual bar—just a cooler for drinks.
Gutfeld recalled tackling a guest, wrestling on the floor, and crumpling someone’s cigarette, only to later buy them a fresh pack. The night ended with a bizarre car ride from one door to another in the same building, showcasing the absurdity of the moment.
Reflecting on his career, Gutfeld revealed that he had been fired from multiple jobs before finding his footing at Fox. He worked at *Men’s Health*, where he created popular fitness guides like *Five Minutes to Flat Abs*.
After being let go, he moved to *Stuff* magazine and later *Maxim*, where he had to leave the country following some controversies. Despite these setbacks, Gutfeld emphasized that getting fired often led him to better opportunities. “You always end up someplace better,” he said.
His big break came when a friend suggested he audition for Fox’s late-night show *Red Eye*. With no rehearsals and a team of intoxicated staff, the show aired at 2:00 AM and was later moved to 3:00 AM for being “too edgy.”
Gutfeld joked that the audience consisted of “speed dealers and breastfeeders,” along with inmates who often wrote him letters. Despite its unconventional nature, *Red Eye* became a cult hit, setting the stage for Gutfeld’s future success.
Gutfeld also spoke about his supportive mother, whom he named a senior correspondent on *Red Eye*. Her job was to watch Fox News and report back, often criticizing the short skirts worn by female anchors. Her no-nonsense attitude and unwavering support played a significant role in Gutfeld’s career, making her a beloved figure among his friends and fans.
In addition to his work on *Gutfeld!* and *The Five*, Gutfeld recently launched a new game show called *What Did I Miss?*. The show sequesters contestants in a house with no access to news or technology for 100 days.
When they emerge, they’re quizzed on current events, often resulting in hilarious moments as they try to distinguish between real and fake news. Gutfeld explained that the concept stemmed from the idea of people missing major news while participating in reality TV shows like *The Bachelor*. The series has been renewed for another season and is streaming on Fox Nation.
Through humor and resilience, Greg Gutfeld has turned his unconventional journey into a successful career, proving that setbacks can lead to greater opportunities. With his unique style and ability to connect with audiences, Gutfeld continues to make waves in television.
