What happened to fun? What happened to going out to the local bar and taking a whiff of your neighboring drunk in public, all because you “don’t want somebody” in your house?
Whoopi Goldberg apparently knows, as The View moderator and Oscar-winning actress said on Friday’s episode that she really wants people to frequent their city’s watering holes to take in the smells of their peers.
After the show welcomed guest Scott Galloway to discuss ideas of modern masculinity, Goldberg praised the way he communicated his ideas to his audience.
“You’re not wondering what you mean, it’s very clear: Here are the things that go into being a man. They’re not the things that people tell you, you don’t have to be Popeye, but you’ve got to be present,” Goldberg said. “You have to be able to reach out and talk to people. I think a lot of this has to do with people not connecting.”
She then reached for cohost Sara Haines’ phone as it rested on the Hot Topics table, to communicate — with ace prop work — that it’s technology that’s keeping us apart.
“People don’t connect. We always get questions here and I say, go to a bar. Smell the people,” Goldberg urged, while panelist Ana Navarro replied: “And if they haven’t showered, get the hell out!”

Galloway added that bars aren’t only good for sniffing, but they’re good for consuming alcohol, too.
“I think young people should drink more. I don’t see drunkenness, I see togetherness. I advise young people to get out of the house more, drink more, make a series of bad decisions that might pay off,” he said, after Alyssa Farah Griffin exclaimed, “I agree!”
Goldberg sent the show off to a commercial break with another important message: “Make mistakes!”
Perhaps while at the bar on Goldberg’s advice, legal expert Sunny Hostin can examine a phenomenon she learned about in 2023, after she told The View audience that she discovered that gay people can identify each other through scent!
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
