The seemingly unstoppable Yellowstone franchise continues, with the Taylor Sheridan-created series launching another spin-off centered on fan-favorite character Kayce Dutton, played once again by Luke Grimes.

MovieWeb’s own George Edelman got the chance to speak with Grimes recently amid the release of the dark comedy Western Eddington, with the actor teasing what’s to come in the Yellowstone sequel series, Y: Marshals.

Discussing the development of Y: Marshals, Grimes revealed that the follow-up will open up the world far more than Yellowstone ever did, while giving Kayce the chance to carve his own path and find his place within that world.

“I can’t say it too much about it (Y: Marshals), but, you know, I will say that the story that we’ve started to figure out for him really opens up the world for him in a way that Yellowstone sort of couldn’t.

You know, he was always sort of stuck in between this rock and hard place. And it was…it was a character that just, you know, he kept saying, “I don’t know what to do with my life.

I don’t know where to fit in.” Oh my God, I’m so sick of saying that. So I think finally he has somewhere to go and something to do. And it’s, it’ll be very exciting.”

‘Yellowstone’ Spin-off Sees Kayce Dutton Join an Elite Unit of U.S. Marshals

So far, Luke Grimes is the only cast member to have been announced for the Yellowstone spin-off Y: Marshals. The series will join the cavalcade of Taylor Sheridan-helmed spin-off shows, but will make a few big changes along the way.

The first is that Y: Marshals will not debut exclusively on the streaming platform Paramount+, and will instead premiere on CBS. The other big change, and one that is sure to have Yellowstone fans worried, is that Y: Marshals is set to be the first series linked to the Yellowstone franchise that is not being written by Taylor Sheridan himself.

Y: Marshals is expected to drop later this year, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

Since coming to a divisive conclusion with the end of its fifth season, Yellowstone has launched all manner of spin-offs, including the prequel shows 1883 and 1923, with the likes of an untitled Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler-centered series in the works alongside The Madison, which will star Michelle Pfeiffer as the matriarch of the McIntosh family.

Originally from New York City, they have left the big city behind to live in the Madison River valley of central Montana.
