At 83, Dr. David Jeremiah’s Family Shares Heartbreaking Health Update
Dr. David Jeremiah, a renowned Christian author and pastor, has long inspired millions with his unwavering faith and dedication to spreading the message of hope.
Now, at 83, his family has revealed a new and challenging chapter in his life—one that has brought both struggle and a deepened sense of gratitude.
Jeremiah’s life philosophy centers on the belief that every moment, whether joyful or difficult, is part of God’s greater plan. He often reflects on how past experiences prepare us for present challenges and future opportunities. This perspective was shaped early in his life, including a near-tragic childhood incident on his uncle’s farm.
At age 12, Jeremiah narrowly avoided a serious accident after climbing an empty silo, a moment that left him with a lasting appreciation for life’s fragility and the importance of wise choices.
Raised in a family anchored in faith, Jeremiah’s father was a pastor and later president of Cedarville University, while his mother dedicated herself to service at the university.
These formative years instilled in him the values of faith, community, and purpose, which would become the foundation of his ministry.
Jeremiah’s pastoral journey began at Blackhawk Baptist Church in Indiana, where he served for 12 years. He later moved to Shadow Mountain Community Church in San Diego, where he has led for over four decades.
Under his guidance, the church has grown into a beacon of hope and compassion, reaching millions through his Turning Point ministry. His sermons, broadcast to nearly three million homes each week, and his more than 100 books have touched countless lives.
However, Jeremiah’s journey has not been without adversity. In the 1990s, he faced two battles with lymphoma, undergoing a stem cell transplant and ultimately emerging cancer-free.
This experience reinforced his faith and deepened his appreciation for his family and congregation.
Recently, Jeremiah has been confronted with a new health challenge: transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition that affects the spinal cord. This condition forced him to step back from preaching for a month and now requires him to deliver sermons while seated, rather than standing as he once did.
Despite these obstacles, Jeremiah remains determined to continue his ministry, relying on the support of his loving wife Donna, their four children, and close friends.
His family has been a pillar throughout his life. His eldest son, David Michael, now leads Turning Point, while his other children contribute to ministry, sports, and community work.
Jeremiah’s marriage to Donna, which began in their college years, is a testament to enduring love and mutual support, even as they navigate the challenges of aging and illness together.
Though the news of Jeremiah’s health struggles is difficult, it has also highlighted his resilience and steadfast faith. He continues to inspire others by embracing each day as a gift and trusting in God’s plan, no matter the circumstances.
Through his example, Dr. David Jeremiah demonstrates that even in the face of devastating news, hope, purpose, and love endure.
